Fire extinguisher refilling cost in Dubai and what quotes include

Many managers assume refilling is always cheaper than buying a new extinguisher. The published prices do not always support that. The fire extinguisher refilling cost in Dubai depends on the type, the scope of work and the extras, and a full test-and-refill package can cost more than a new unit.

In the listings below, refill-only prices run from AED 21.00 to AED 210.00 depending on type, and test-and-refill packages for powder and CO2 units run from AED 57.75 to AED 147.00. All prices are supplier listings checked on 3 November 2026. They are not official tariffs or a market average, and they can change, so confirm each one in writing.

Fire extinguisher refilling cost in Dubai: what listings show

Refill-only prices vary widely, and several listings leave gaps. Read the last column as carefully as the price.

Do not read the low end of a range as the price of a small cylinder. The Fire Supplies pages did not show which size sits behind each figure. Safetag's 9 kg page and its category page disagree, so ask which one applies.

A Redflames article dated 1 April 2026 gives approximate bands, such as AED 30 to 50 for a 6 kg dry powder refill and AED 80 to 120 for a 5 kg CO2 refill. It does not state VAT or what the price covers, so it cannot be compared directly with VAT-inclusive listings.

Hydrostatic testing plus refilling

Recharging restores the agent and pressure. Hydrostatic testing checks that the cylinder can hold pressure. A package with both is a different product from a refill, so compare it only with another package of the same scope. In these Fire Supplies prices, the hydrostatic testing cost is part of the package, and all prices include VAT.

The 6 kg DCP page describes internal and external cylinder examination, with test details placed on a label afterwards. It also says cylinders with disqualifying pitting are removed from service and cannot be repaired. So a package price assumes the cylinder passes.

What a sample quotation looks like

Here is an illustration for ten 6 kg DCP test-and-refill packages at the published AED 85.05 each. It is arithmetic from a listing, not a supplier quotation, and it assumes no quantity discount.

Because the listed price already includes VAT, do not add another 5% on top. The UAE Federal Tax Authority sets the general VAT rate at 5%, and a good quotation says whether its prices include it. The four unpriced lines are where totals grow. Fire Supplies' pages are inconsistent about whether delivery is free, and its CO2 page says faulty parts are priced later. Do not guess these amounts. Get each one confirmed.

Should you refill or replace?

Compare complete totals, not headline prices. Fire Supplies also listed new units on 3 November 2026, all including VAT:

- A new Flametech 6 kg DCP extinguisher at AED 81.90, against AED 85.05 for the 6 kg test-and-refill package.

- A new Mobiak 6 kg dry powder unit at AED 126.00.

- A new Mobiak 2 kg CO2 unit at AED 141.75, against AED 115.50 for the 2 kg CO2 package.

- A new Fireguard 5 kg CO2 unit at AED 210.00, against AED 131.25 for the 5 kg CO2 package.

So a new 6 kg powder unit can match or undercut servicing, while CO2 servicing looked cheaper in these listings. The new-unit prices are product-only, with delivery and other inclusions unconfirmed.

A replacement must still suit the job. Match the required agent, capacity, fire rating and approvals, because equal cylinder weight does not mean equal protection. Our guide to types of fire extinguishers in the UAE explains the differences. Ask a technician to assess each cylinder first, price only the work needed, then compare that total with a suitable replacement delivered.

How to compare quotations

1. Send a unit schedule. List agent type, capacity, quantity, manufacturer, cylinder identification, manufacture date, service history and visible defects. A flat per-unit price ignores all of this.

2. Ask what each price covers. Check refill, internal examination, hydrostatic test, seals and valves, and what happens to a rejected cylinder.

3. Confirm VAT. Each price should say included or excluded.

4. Get the extras in writing. Collection, return, parts approval and any documentation charge each need their own line.

5. Ask about cover while cylinders are away. A Trakhees construction-safety guideline from January 2019 expects the extinguisher type, capacity and number required by Civil Defence to be maintained. It applies to construction sites, but asking how the contractor keeps suitable temporary cover is sensible anywhere.

6. Specify the handover. Ask for a dated service tag and a report that names each cylinder, the work done, parts replaced, test results and any rejected unit.

Be wary of two false savings. A cheaper agent is not a saving, because manufacturers specify the charge and genuine compatible spares, and powder types must not be mixed. Waiting to build a bigger batch is not a saving either if an extinguisher has been used. One manufacturer manual says powder and CO2 units must be depressurised and refilled by a competent person after any use, so a short discharge needs attention now.

Also choose a contractor with current Civil Defence approvals and competent technicians. A marketing badge on a retail page does not prove either. Our guide to choosing the right fire extinguisher supplier in Dubai covers what to check.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does an annual maintenance contract cover refills?

Not automatically. Coverage for repair and replacement depends on the contract terms, so check refill, testing and parts in writing. Our article on choosing the right maintenance contract for fire safety equipment lists what to look for.

Does every extinguisher need refilling every year?

No. Annual servicing, recharging, internal examination and hydrostatic testing are different activities. What each unit needs depends on its type, the manufacturer's instructions and the applicable authority, so ask the technician to state the basis.

Does a refill label count as a Civil Defence certificate?

No. A service label, contractor report or test record is not a building approval, an Istifa certificate or Hassantuk certification. It is a service record for the extinguisher.

Is the 2026 NFPA 10 edition mandatory in Dubai?

Not by publication alone. NFPA lists 2026 as the current edition, but that does not show it has been adopted for a particular Dubai property. Ask the contractor which requirements they apply.
